Listen to the farm

La Palma & El Tucán · Zipacón, Colombia · 1,700 m

The farm where your coffee grew.
Still recording.

Eighty minutes of it, free — four long recordings, one for each cup of the day. Everything else is here too, a minute at a time.

No sign-up and nothing to install. Headphones help.

How this was made

On the farm, with HILA · Música de las Plantas

Real recordings, really arranged. Both are true, and the method is scientific, not mystical.

  1. 01

    The plants are wired

Electrodes on living Geisha, Sidra, Java, banana and chachafruto. Plants run on electricity all day.

  2. 02

    The signal becomes a score

It is mapped to pitch and rhythm. A plant has no melody — what it has is a cadence.

  3. 03

    Then we arrange it

Field recordings underneath, instruments on top. Some of that with AI tools — on these recordings, never instead of them.

For your coffee ritual

4 recordings · 80 min

Long enough to grind, brew and drink without hurrying. These four play in full, start to finish.

  • Before the first cup

    Morning Rain at La Palma

Yours with every bag of coffee

    20:00 · complete
Field recording — rain through the canopy
    Geisha lot, upper hillside

Rain at 1,700 m arrives in layers: a hiss through the canopy, then drops on broad coffee leaves, then quiet pooling at the base of the Geisha plants.

  • While it brews

    Cloud Forest Birds

    20:00 · complete
Field recording — dawn chorus in the canopy
    Tanagers, toucanets, Andean Cock-of-the-rock

First light, when the canopy is at its busiest. Arranged to stay level: nothing in it asks for your attention.

  • While you drink it

    Coffee Farm Café Ambience

    20:00 · complete
Field recording — mill, patios, farm ambience
Warm piano and bass over the real room

Most café ambience has no idea what a coffee farm sounds like. This one was built on ours.

  • The last cup of the day

    Sunset Birds

    20:00 · complete
Field recording + bioelectric signal, Geisha
    Golden hour at 1,700 m

Here the hour before dark is the loudest one. Birds quiet all afternoon call across the canopy, the mist thickens, the temperature drops.

The rest of the catalogue

8 tracks · one hour each

Everything else recorded here, a minute at a time. Each one runs a full hour.

To fall asleep

2 tracks · 60 s samples

Recorded through the night, when the plant keeps working and we do not.

  • Sleep Geisha

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
    Bioelectric recording, overnight
    Geisha · HILA

A Geisha plant doesn't stop at night. Its signal keeps moving with the temperature drop and the dew, and that is what sits under these textures.

  • Sleep Java

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
    Bioelectric recording
    Java variety · HILA

Java pulses slowly and low. We kept that cadence and built piano and analog pads around it.

To work

2 tracks · 60 s samples

No melody to follow, no rhythm to tap to. Two varieties at opposite ends of the signal.

  • Focus Sidra

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
    Bioelectric recording
    Borbón Sidra · HILA

Fewer than a dozen farms in the world grow Borbón Sidra. Its signal sits high and clean, and the track stays there.

  • Focus Banano

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
    Bioelectric recording
Banana, shade tree in the polyculture · HILA

The banana trees that shade our coffee have a larger vascular system, and a more energetic signal with it: bright and moving forward.

To slow down

2 tracks · 60 s samples

The shade trees and the water. Both move slower than the coffee.

  • Meditation Chachafruto

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
    Bioelectric recording
Chachafruto, Erythrina edulis · shade tree · HILA

An Andean tree cultivated for centuries before specialty coffee existed. It grows here as shade, and its rhythms are far slower than the coffee beside it.

  • Creek & Forest Ambience

    0:60 sample · full track 60:00
Field recording — streams and forest floor
    Shade-grown polyculture, between the rows

Small streams run between the coffee, the fruit trees and the primary forest. Not sleep, not focus — the hour in between.

The raw document

2 tracks · 60 s samples

Where the catalogue started. Closer to the measurement than to music, and left that way.

  • Geisha Plant Music

    0:60 sample · full track 13:55
    Bioelectric recording, unprocessed
Electrodes on living Geisha · HILA

The first thing HILA recorded here: millivolt activity from Geisha plants, turned into sound and left alone. Quieter and rougher than the rest, on purpose.

  • Geisha Plant Bioelectrics

    0:60 sample · full track 3:00
    Bioelectric recording, arranged
    Geisha · HILA biosensors

The same plants, read around the clock. Cloud cover and root moisture become slow filter sweeps and drifting pitch.

Everything here was recorded at La Palma & El Tucán, Zipacón, Cundinamarca, at 1,700 m. These are recordings, not a medical device, and we make no health claims for them.
